Katrine’s Bridal Top
On September 26, 2020, I got married for the second time. I had turned 50, and I wanted both a church wedding and to be married in white, but in a more downplayed way. My first wedding, when I was 27, was a ‘princess wedding’ with me wearing a magnificent dress, lace, veil, and a long train, so I had already tried that. This time I wanted to look good and feminine without too many frills, and I wanted to knit my own top. I managed to find the most beautiful, 5-layered tulle skirt – it had been used by another bride, and my girlfriend helped me shorten it (we took almost 50 cm off the length) to make it fit me.

The top was to be made of 100% cashmere from one of our Italian suppliers. I wanted it to be simple, with a symbolic lace pattern. The symbol pattern is ancient and means: Family. It is a combination of symbols meaning woman, man, and children, which combined means family.

This symbol is also on my wedding ring and my husband’s wedding bracelet. Family is the most important thing to us, and that day we formed a ring around our own little, combined family.

Many knitters have asked about a pattern for the top, and here it is. The design may easily be changed to have ¾ or long sleeves. And depending on your preferred yarn, it will have different expressions. I will knit my summer version in No 21 and No 13 together, or in the Everyday kit.

Önling No 13, Cashmere accompanying yarn, 95% lambswool and 5% cashmere, 1600 m per 80 g.

The top is worked all the way through with 1 strand No 21 and 1 strand No 13 held together.

The top is worked all the way through with one strand of each quality held together. Recommended circular needles size 3 and 3½ mm / US 2.5 and 4.

Materials Silk kit
You will have sufficient yarn to make the ¾-length sleeve version.
2 cones Önling No 6a, 100% tussah silk, 1500 m per 100 g, or Önling No 6b, 70% rayon and 30% tussah silk, 1500 m per 100 g (Some colors come in quality No 6a, and others in quality 6b).

2 cones Önling No 7, 100% linen, 850 m per 100 g.
1 cone Önling No 8, 100% Merino wool, 1500 m per 100 g.

The top is worked all the way through with 1 strand of each No 6, 7, and 8 held together.

Materials No 14 with short sleeves
(300)350(350)400(400)450 g Önling No 14, 78% GOTS certified cotton and 22% linen, 120 m per 50 g.

The top is worked all the way through with one strand of No 14.

Gauge
23 sts and 32 rows/rounds of stockinette and stitch pattern on needle size 3½ mm / US 4 = 10x10 cm / 4x4 inches.

Recommended circular and double-pointed needles size 3 and 3½ mm / US 2.5 and 4.

Procedure
The top is worked in the round from the top down.
First, the yoke is worked with short rows and increases, and then with increases in the lace pattern. Finally, the yoke stitches are divided into body and sleeves, which are finished separately. This allows you to try on the top as you go and make adjustments to make it fit perfectly. It is very easy to adjust the length to be shorter or longer as you prefer.
