This shawl has a Victorian style glamor. I used a sumptuous color of madelinetosh called “Venetian” and beads with a hint of contrast to make this lovely shawl. It measures about 54” wide and so is not a gigantic project, but a knit with new techniques for most of you.

Most of you will not have had an occasion to work the cool knitted edging of this shawl. You will need 648 6/0 or 5/0 beads and a size US 13/14 steel crochet hook. The needle used is a 40” size US 7. You can use a 32” size US 7 (or size you need to get the listed gauge with your chosen yarn), but the stitches on the first couple rows are bunched up, making the work a little harder to accomplish. You will decrease stitches quickly, though.

Lace is easy and written out, not charted.

This shawl has a lovely, unusual edging, a little lace, lots of beads (the beads are optional; if you’d like a simpler look, instead of “hb” in the pattern, just knit the stitch instead).
