A play on “Keep Austin Weird”, this shawl draws inspiration from the city itself for the design. The triangular shape and fringe evokes the cowboy bandana, the lace mimics the thistles and wild plant life native to the area, and the stripe stockinette section drawing from modern fashion. Knit up in Worsted weight yarn, the end result is a large and swooping shawl, perfect for the adventurer in all of us.

This shawl was worked up in “Kaybee’s Twist”, Hill Country Weavers first house yarn!

When HCW had the opportunity to create an exclusive yarn for the store, we knew exactly what it should be — a Texas merino and mohair blend. And we knew what to call it — Kaybee’s Twist, as it combines both Texas history and personal history with a gentle twist of fiber.

You’ll love the loosely twisted 2-ply that mimics handspun in texture and creates a soft fabric that drapes easily at looser gauges, while giving substance to tighter ones.

Needle: US 8 60” circular needle. A circular needle is recommended to accommodate large number of stitches Yarns Used: Kaybee’s Twist (Worsted / ? ply; 55% Merino, 35% Kid Mohair, 10% Tencel; 300 yards, 4 oz). One skein in two color ways were used, Palo Pinto & Val Verde.
Yardage: Approx. 550-600 yards
Gauge: 20 sts and 32 rows over 4” in St. st. Gauge is not essential to this project, but differing gauges will effect the final size and yardage.
Other Notions: Removable stitch markers
Final Measurements: Center length 30”, wingspan 60” after slightly aggressive blocking. 

Special Techniques/Stitches: YO and M1-L / M1-R increases, basic decreases (k2tog, ssk) and garter tab cast-on. Written and charted instructions for the lace are included.
