Our Free Beginner Tutorial Design for the Keep Me Clean Washcloths is a perfect first project. There are three washcloth designs, ranging from beginner to intermediate, so you can decide which to make! It’s designed for absolute beginners, and the digital version is integrated with KnitSchool (our knitting skills videos).

You’ll learn how to: cast on, knit, purl, read a chart, and bind off

We also sell kits for this design.

Materials:
YARN:

Any DK cotton; we recommend Erika Knight Gossypium Cotton. Cotton will hold up to wear better than wool for this project. In your beginner kit, we’ve included enough yarn to make three washcloths. If you’re not using one of our kits, you will need at least 38 m (42 yds) of yarn per washcloth.
Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS:

Size 4 mm (US size 6) straight needles
Tapestry needle for sewing in the ends
Scissors (not included in the kit)

GAUGE:

22 stitches and 30 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch, although matching gauge exactly isn’t necessary for this project

FINISHED DIMENSIONS:

6.5” square
