kentmere cowl
A 2011 design revisited for 2022 - a (literal) twist on the garter stitch scarf. Two interlocking moebius loops create an effortlessy rumpled cowl that physically can’t collapse flat. Nothing worse than a floppy cowl! The Kentmere cowl pattern works in any yarn weight and the pattern includes instructions for modifying for your particular gauge.
YARN: any yarn! This pattern technically works in any yarn weight.
Sample used 1 strand of worsted weight (AXIS by Lily Kate in shade Albedo) held together with 1 strand of laceweight silk mohair for the 1st half, and 3 strands of silk mohair held together for the 2nd half. Both combinations resulted in a thick aran / light chunky weight yarn. Sample used approx 130m of worsted and
600m of laceweight in total.
I used handdyed silk mohair (not listed on Ravelry) for the sample, which is the same fibre content / yardage as theRowan Kidsilk Haze listed.
GAUGE: 14 sts / 22 rows to 4” / 10cm in sample, see note above. Pattern works for any gauge, but be sure to make and block a swatch, (blocking is especially important with garter stitch), and measure your gauge accurately. Aim for a slightly airy / drapey fabric. Make a note of how much your fabric grows lengthwise during blocking.
NEEDLES & NOTIONS:
Chosen needle size in either straight or circular (cowl is worked flat). Sample used 6mm needle.
Tapestry needle
Scrap yarn
Crochet hook for provisional cast on
SIZING: Finished cowl measured approx 53” / 153cm long and 12” / 30 cm wide after blocking, before twisting and assembling.
Photo tutorial for the twisting included in the pattern :)
I LOVE seeing people knit my patterns and make them their own - if you could tag @lilykatemakes and #KentmereCowl on Instagram that would be great!
