Kiawah is my answer to what to do with that single skein of special yarn. Worked from tip to tip in squishy garter for mostly mindless knitting. Stitches are then picked up along the edge and a beaded picot is worked. ( Note: Beads are optional but I highly recommend them because they add a little weight to the edge which makes it lay even better, the little bits of sparkle from the beads give it an extra bit of something, and because the crochet hook technique is really fun! I want to put beads on everything now, well maybe not everything but definitely more things)
I purchased this yarn with a gift certificate to my favorite lys (In the Loop in Plainville, MA. If you’re in the area, visit them!) that I received for Mother’s Day. The Phydeaux Angelique is definitely something special and I felt like I had really treated myself! I hope you can treat yourself as well!
The shawl is named for Kiawah Island which is near Charleston, SC. We vacation there every year and it is where this shawl was mostly knit (and during the 16 hour car ride!).

Materials

Approximately 400 yds of fingering weight yarn

(Sample shown used 1 skein Phydeaux Designs Angelique (70 % Alpaca, 20% Cashmere, 10% Silk), 435 yds/100 g in color Papyrus)

One US 4.0/3.5 mm 24” circular needle or size to obtain gauge

1.00 mm crochet hook (for placing beads)

Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)

Approximately 140 size 6/0 seed beads
