KidMurca Mittens (CaptainAmerica tribute)
Do you have or know a kid who is crazy about Captain America? I do! My son is almost as fond of Cap Murca as I am so naturally I had to make him his own mittens, to go with mine.
I chose to make them fingerless for two practical reasons:
1. To make them more flexible sizewise (to allow for shorter and longer fingers)
2. To make them suitable for a wider temperature range than full mittens. (They can be worn over gloves when it’s very cold, and as they are in less chilly weather).
The mittens are a total hit with my son (he even wears them to bed!), so I thought maybe some of you guys would like to make them too. Happy superhero knitting!
Fits: Kids ages 4-7
Measurements: 8 cm/3” x 10 cm/4”
Gauge: 35 st x 35 rows = 4” after blocking to above size
Yarn: Filcolana Arwetta Classic in Blue, Red and White. 25 g in total.
Needles: 3 mm/US 2.5 and 2 mm/US circular needle, and 2 mm/US 0 DPNs.
Also: Stitch holder/waste yarn, tapestry needle, sewing needle, white sewing thread and white felt.
I knit my mittens using the magic loop method, but DPNs works as well, or a short circular needle if that is what you prefer. Please make sure not to leave too long floats at the back of your work. I usually twist the yarn every 3 stitches.’
Oh, and if you publish pictures of your mittens on any social platforms it would be really cool if you used the hashtag #KidMurcaMittens. But only if you want to, of course.
