Kids' Blue Ice Beanie
This pattern is
available for free.
Here’s a spring-weight kids’ hat, worked mostly in stripes with a teensy weensy bit of gathering to give the pattern slightly more interest. In order to knit it, you will need two colors of dk weight yarn (somewhere between 50 and 75 yards of each), as well as two 16” circular needles, one in size 5, and one in size 7 (if you’re knitting for a one-year-old, however, smaller needles would probably be better). You will also need a set of double-pointed needles in the same size that you use to knit the rest of the pattern (minus the ribbing, which is knit on a smaller gauge).
