Have you ever seen a British film from the 1940s called ‘I know where I’m going!’ or IKWIG, for short?

The heroine thinks she’s got her life mapped out ahead of her, but while she’s on her way to marry her mega-rich industrialist employer/fiancé, on the island of Kiloran, she falls in love with someone else and, you’ve guessed it, lives happily ever after with him instead.

Watching the film got me thinking about the practical tweedy-looking skirts that so many of the women were wearing - not much by way of trousers for women in those days. This skirt, with it’s modest A-line silhouette, buttons and practical length, would fit right in, is my homage to this lovely old film.

The gauge for this pattern is 13 sts and 12 rows to measure 4 in/10 cm in half double crochet (hdc) with larger hook.

The length is 21.5 in/55 cm, although this can be adjusted.

Some more details:
Finished Size: 24 (26½, 29, 31, 34){36½, 39, 41½, 44} in/61 (67, 73.5, 79.5, 86.5){93, 99, 105, 112} cm waist circumference.

Yarn: Sublime Luxurious Aran Tweed; 40% wool, 40% cotton, 20% llama; col 367, or other aran weight yarn with little to no stretch; 875 (939, 1006, 1066, 1132){1225, 1258, 1340, 1410} yds/800 (850, 920, 975, 1035){1120, 1150, 1225, 1290} mts.

Hook: 7 (4.5 mm) and G/6 (4 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge/tension.
