Kingfisher Blanket
The Kingfisher Blanket is a colourful fun blanket inspired by the glorious British kingfisher and surroundings.
The beginner-friendly ripple design is reminiscent of feathers with electric bursts of colour.
The pattern contains two versions, with instructions on changing the size.
The Baby Kingfisher blanket is a smaller version in two sizes with an alternate colour sequence and a sweet decorative border.
Small: 80 x 90cm (31 ½ x 35 ½ inches)
Cot: 116 x 143cm (45 ½ x 56 inches)
Inspiration
I am originally from Australia where kookaburras are native. Here in the UK we have our very own and dare I say superior little kookaburra, the glorious kingfisher. I love how depending on the light the colours appear differently.
I have taken inspiration for this blanket from the range of colours, feathers and habitat of the kingfisher for both the colours and stitch pattern.
Yarn
I was lucky to have received Rowan Cotton Glace yarn to complete this project for the magazine. It is a beautiful yarn to work with, gorgeous colours and great stitch definition.
However, the pattern is written for any dk weight yarn. You will most likely need the same amount of yarn unless the yardage is hugely different.
The Baby Kingfisher blanket uses Stylecraft Special DK.
You can use any DK yarn. For the main Kingfisher blanket choose 3 main colours (A, B, C) and for each main colour choose two complementary colours (D, E, F, G, H, I). Choose another colour for the border (J).
For the Baby Kingfisher choose a main colour and 4 complementary colours.
Pattern is in UK terms with USA terms in ( ) or UK/USA when enclosed in ( ).
The pattern has been tested, tech edited and includes a chart.
