The Kiss Me Kate sweater is a fitted cardigan with a deep V-neckline, raglan 3/4 sleeves, and curved hem that echoes the curves of the collar. The cardigan is knit seamlessly from the top (neck) down and is shaped to the waist and hips with princess seams. It is intended to be worn with 0-2” of negative ease at the bust, but also fits well with a bit of positive ease at the bust.

Knitters wanting a little more coverage at the front may wish to omit the waist shaping as well as the initial decreases at the front edges.

The pattern includes tips for picking up stitches for the trim as well as hints for wrapping and turning (and picking up the wraps) for the short rows that shape the collar.

Because the collar involves short-rows, I recommend this as an “Intermediate” level pattern.

Finished bust measurements are: 31.8(34.5, 37.8, 40.5, 44.5, 47.8, 50.5)“. The cardigan requires 3(3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5) skeins Valley Yarns Charlemont (440 yd/100 g), or approx 925(1000, 1225, 1350, 1550, 1785, 1950)yards of fingering weight yarn.

For yarn substitutes, I recommend a yarn with a bit of drape to it--drape can be achieved through fiber content (a bit of silk or alpaca) and/or working a yarn to a loosened gauge. The pattern’s gauge of 24 st & 32 rows/4” is post blocking and is intended to be worked in a true fingering weight yarn. Although the gauge is more typical of a sport weight yarn, this is not recommended as it may result in too stiff of a fabric for the collar’s curved edge.
