Knit Beaded Jewelry
I love knitting. I love jewelry. Voila! Here is a pattern that satisfies both passions.
The essence of knitting with beads is distilled into its simplest form with this pattern. Believe it or not, you can knit a bracelet in only 1/2 hour. Cost of supplies is low because you only need 5-10 yds or yarn and 30-75 beads for a bracelet! Get a head start on your Christmas and birthday gifts while saving money at the same time.
Bracelets and necklaces are worked from side-to-side over 7 stitches. Because of the nature of stockinette stitch, the piece tends to roll naturally into a tube. You have the option of leaving your piece naturally rolled, or wet blocking it flat. The choice is yours. Charts are provided for 3 different bead patterns:
Chart 1: Small Diamonds
Chart 2: Small/Large Diamonds
Chart 3: Allover Pattern
Choose yarn and beads in complementary or contrasting colors. Don’t try to match colors exactly because the beads won’t show up. Choose a clasp that enhances your piece: toggle or plunge, small or large, color (silvertone, goldtone, antique brass, copper, etc.). Most of my beading supplies were purchased at Michael’s and JoAnn’s. If you want premium beads and findings, find a bead shop in your area or shop online.
Consider embellishing your pieces with charms, tassles, found objects, broken earrings, earring orphans, etc. You can even recycle your old jewelry -- charms, pendants, broken earrings…. Don’t throw anything away, repurpose it instead.
