This is the knitted version of the amigurumi sheep I made a few years ago.

Make a whole flock—each one will have its own personality. I’ve used these sheep as little gifts—for instance, for someone who needs cheering up or is sick. An encouraging word or Bible verse could be included. These also make great Christmas ornaments. See note below if you are planning on ornaments.

Level of difficulty
Intermediate—Familiarity with knitting in rounds and picking up stitches helpful. Long tail and cable cast on work best.

Gauge
Exact gauge is not necessary; however, the stitches should be firmly knitted so as not to reveal stuffing

Materials
• For legs, a heavy worsted such as Caron’s Perfect Match in Black, 7 oz./198 g., 355 yd./325 m.
• For “wool,” a bulky bouclé such as Lion Brand Homespun in Hepplewhite or Black, 6 oz/170 g, 185 yd/167 m; less than 5/8 oz., or 18 g, needed for small sheep. Please note that body of sheep is worked with yarn doubled.
• Polyester fiberfill stuffing
• 8-12 small, ~ 1 cm. river rocks, available at most craft stores,
or found rocks
• 6 mm solid black eyes (sewing/craft stores like Joanne’s
carries these—they look like plastic nails with plastic washers—
one brand is Darice®), or embroidery floss if making for small
children 3 and under.
• 2 size 8 (5 mm) circular needles, wood preferred
• Tapestry needle
• Yarn markers—6” scraps of different colored yarn may be used
• Optional: A crochet hook is useful for weaving in ends
• Optional: White felt for eyes
• Optional: Cardboard or plastic lid/equivalent for making
stabilizers for ornaments
