Knitters know why
The pattern is available to buy it individually or as part of the Bandana Bonanza collection - please decide before you buy as I am afraid I cannot refund the price of the individual pattern against the collection later.
The effect created by these stitches is quite unusual and something knitters will really appreciate - whether it’s you as you’re knitting or admiring fellow knitters.
The pattern is probably best for a more experienced knitter, but a determined beginner could make one just by following the process step by step. ☻
It’s mostly very simple, but there are a few rows on which you have to slow down and concentrate.
Nothing is particularly difficult - it just needs a bit of focus (not social knitting for those few rows, but the rest is).
The pattern has been adapted from one I found in a Japanese stitch glossary.
It took a bit to wrap my head around it, but I have now converted it to use symbols that are more familiar to Western knitters, and I love how it works as an edging on a bandana.
The cowl (like the others in the collection) can have a high or low neckline).
You need main colour - approx. 150m/165yds
a contrast colour - this forms the stripes - approx. 30m/33yds
an accent colour - this forms the crosses - approx. 10m/11yds
In case you are wondering about the title, it’s a tongue-in-cheek reference to the ubiquitous slogan for a popular Belgian beer which is:
“les hommes savent pourquoi/mannen weten waarom“ (men know why … )
- yes really !!! ☻
