Knitting for a Folk Dance Knee Socks
Feather and fan is the very first lace pattern I ever attempted to knit, and it’s become one of my favorite stitches to knit. I use it every chance I get, so when I saw these lace socks in a book on Lithuanian national costume, I knew I would make a pair for myself. I ended up making two pairs: knee socks and crew socks. The originals were made in natural colored linen yarn for summer wear, but my versions are made in hand-dyed superwash merino wool to be more comfortable, and warmer for three-season wear, since I never wear socks in summer.
Calf shaping is accomplished by changing pattern stitches and needle sizes.
