For the likes of us, a buttonbox is a treasure chest. Many of us remember long, rainy childhood afternoons spent tipping out a battered old biscuit tin filled to the brim with buttons.

Too many to count. An abundance. An infinity. The soft clatter, the click and slide of fingers stirring through the hoard. The quiet satisfaction of sorting—by colour, by size, by feel—just for the joy of it. And the thrill of rummaging through on a mission, only to discover the perfect button for your project.

The Buttonbox Throw is inspired by the uncomplicated happiness of those memories. This square blanket is designed for 24 mini skeins (10g each), but it’s easily adapted for 20g minis or a stash of precious scraps. Like buttons, each yarn brings its own colour, texture, and memory.

You might follow along with a yarn advent, knitting each mini as you open it, or sift through your leftovers and let your hands (and heart) choose the next. Knit from the centre out, the throw grows in gentle rounds of soft stockinette, with eyelet rows like tiny buttonholes adding breath and light between the stripes. A crisp i-cord bind-off finishes the edge with care. Gentle, grounding, and rich with texture, this is true comfort knitting: a quiet gathering of small, beautiful moments.
