koronki
5 for 4 – if you buy any 5 Åsa Tricosa patterns at the same time you get the least expensive one for free.
Koronki is a dreamy and elegant cardigan with a flattering, relaxed drape that hints at curves without clinging.
The swingy A-line shape is created by the lace triangle that grows from a small twisted cable down the back.
The cardigan is knitted in one piece from the centre back collar down to the hem, collar, front bands and all. Well, the sleeves (cointiguous, set-in, worked in the round) have to be knitted one at a time, of course, but there is no sewing in sight.
This is a new technique – Åsa’s Top-Down Ziggurat Tricnique! – inspired by Tuulia’s Tailored Sweater Method but knitted in one go, so to speak.
Step-by-step instructions and a photo tutorial guide you through the unusual beginning.
(You can find a general description of the Ziggurat method here.)
The gorgeous drape is provided by the dreamy yarn, Faery Wings, which inspired the design. For alternative yarn choices, I recommend that you use a drapey yarn, such as a silk/merino blend or maybe a bamboo blend. Alpaca would probably work well, too.
You can see a gorgeous test knit by ElaineZoe here. Her photos more accurately depict the collar which in the revised pattern is knitted to lie flat.
Yarn requirements:
4 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5) skeins
Note: The sample in size 40 used 3.5 skeins. The smallest two sizes can squeeze by with 3 skeins – you may need to finish the sleeves before finishing the body in order to make sure. Likewise, sizes 42 and 44 can probably get by with 4 skeins, but don’t chance it if you are not happy to make the cardigan a little bit shorter if need be.
