Kraginn
This pattern is part of my Icelandic Yarn Club 4 to which it is exclusive for 10 months. It will be released as a single pattern after that.
In the second half of the 19th century, there was a great debate in Iceland about whether women should put down their costumes and adopt “Danish” fashion. Kraginn, The Collar, is inspired by such fashion and the recognizable Victorian lace collars. I reinterpreted it in typical Icelandic knitting lace, from the interesting lacy cast on to the bind off in arches and to the choice of lace motifs. You will for example find one little kongúlóaprjón (spider motif) between the leaves and the typical undulating lace at the bottom.
The silk in the wool adds some spark to the stitches and accentuates their jewellery like effect.
The collar is closed by a litte button and comes in 3 sizes.
This is a quick project that will get you started in lace knitting without having to commit to a bigger project like a shawl.
Size: sizes 1(2,3) to fit an approx. 27(32,37) cm / 10½(12½,14½)” neck. Easily adjustable by adding or suppressing motifs. You can also obtain more sizes by changing needle size.
Inner circle: 48(52,56.5) cm / 19(20½,22¼)”
Outer circle: 110.5(121.5,132) cm / 43½(47¾,52)”
Sample is a Size 1 shown on a 32 cm /12½” neck.
Gauge
10 cm / 4” = 22 sts in lace motif and for reference 30 sts and 34 rows in Stocking st on 3 mm / US 2.5 needle
Check your gauge and if necessary, change needle size to obtain the correct gauge.
Gauge is not essential but will affect the yardage required.

Needle: 3 mm / US 2.5 circular needle (suitable for lace with pointy tips) or size to obtain the gauge.
