Kreuzberg
This pattern is part of the eBook “Berlin - wrapped in Red”, the result of a collaboration between Steffi Palm & Marion Bulin, owners of Yarn over Berlin, and their fabulous and creative friends. The eBook is part of the Malabrigo Freelance pattern project and features several Malabrigo yarns used for eleven red patterns named after Berlin´s districts, rivers or sights.
Kreuzberg is a well-known district of Berlin. When Berlin was still divided, it was a quite poor area but now it has turned out to be one of the hip places to be. It is famous for a so-called “multi-culti” living, which means it is really multi-cultural with people from all over the World. Together with its neighboring district Friedrichshain it is located in the middle of Berlin now, the heart of the city where the river Spree runs and the hip people wearing cowls can be found.
I named my cowl after this district because “Kreuz” is the german word for cross which is exactly what you do with the pattern, you cross the stitches to get cables. This cowl is a one-skein wonder. I added dropped stitches to get the most out of one skein of Malabrigo Rasta. You can easily adjust the size, but if you want a bigger size you will need an additional skein.
