Kristin is the Icelandic word for matriarch. My aunt Joanne was the matriarch of our family, and the strongest person I knew – she raised 5 children and was a mom to everyone. Kristin is a squishy garter sideways shawlette, designed to use up most of your skein. Weigh it at the start and increase until you’re halfway through, then work the same number of decreases.

Finished Size: 17x64” once blocked

Yarn: Neighborhood Fiber Co Studio Sock, 100% Superwash Merino, 400 yards/4 ounces (Sample used 365 yards, shown in Logan Circle).

Needles: 24” circular needle size 5 US (3.75 mm), or size to obtain gauge

Gauge: 22 stitches/ 28 rows per 4 inches in wet-blocked stockinette. Gauge is not critical for this item, but it will affect drape and amount of yarn used.

Notes:
This shawl is knit from one end to the other. Weigh your yarn at the beginning! Knit the increase portion of the shawl until you have used half (or just slightly less!) of the yarn, then begin decrease portion. For this purpose, a scale which measures grams is best. Sample used 104 grams. You may knit this shawl with any yarn, at any gauge. The secret remains, just weigh it!
