La Serenissima Shawl is a small triangular kerchief designed to be worn in multiple ways, from loosely draped around the neck to neatly tied as a lightweight accessory. The shawl is worked from tip to tip, beginning at one tip, increasing on every right-side row until the full width is reached, and then decreasing symmetrically back to the opposite tip. The size is easy to adjust by working additional pattern repeats, making it simple to customize the final dimensions.

The lace and cable motif is inspired by the golden details, carved stonework, and stained glass windows found throughout the houses, bridges, and narrow alleyways of Venice. La Serenissima, meaning “The Most Serene,” is an affectionate name for the city and reflects the calm, elegant rhythm of the stitch pattern.

The shawl is knitted with two strands of lace weight yarn held together, creating a dreamy, lightweight fabric with soft texture. Alternatively, it can be worked with a strand of fingering weight yarn held together with silk mohair or suri alpaca, or with a single strand of DK weight yarn for a slightly more structured look.
