This versatile pattern will work with yarns of different fibres and weights. The blue sample was the first one I knit, in a fingering weight modal yarn with a touch of cashmere. It is smooth and soft, has a lovely drape, and would be perfect for summer evenings when the air turns cool. The smaller, pink version was knit with a wool and alpaca blend DK weight yarn, and would be better worn as a winter scarf. There are some notes in the instructions about knitting stripes into your shawl, and the striped sample was knit with hand-dyed sock yarn.

Size is easy to adjust: the shawl is knit in 12-row tiers and you can stop knitting after any one of them. Specific instructions are included for the three shawls featured in the photos.

Search your stash, and you will probably find some yarn that you can use for this design. Or head out to your LYS and look for something new—I’m sure the owners will be happy to help you!
