Lace Anemone
Lace anemone is a slouchy beret worked in fingering weight yarn, perfect as a transitional accessory for those days when there’s a slight nip in the air but it’s not chilly enough for the proper winter woollens.
It begins with a provisional cast-on and a double thickness brim to ensure the beret stays firmly in place. A classic lace pattern makes for a pretty and feminine hat with lines of eyelets following the decreases up to the crown.
The beret is sized to fit an average woman’s head of approximately 22 ½” (57cm) circumference. The band measures 20” (51cm) while the circumference at the widest part of the hat is approximately 33” (84cm).
Pattern tension is 24 sts and 44 rows to 4” (10cm) measured over K2, P2 rib using 2.75mm (US 2) needles. This is the tension for the brim which is the most important area for the hat to fit.
If you buy both Lace Anemone and its companion Cowl Anemone, the set will be charged at a discounted price of £5.00 (plus VAT where charged). Previous purchases count too, so you can still get the discount if you buy one now and the second one later!
You will need:
200-250 yards (180-230 m) fingering weight yarn
Small amount of smooth waste fingering weight yarn for crochet cast-on
2.5mm (US 1.5) needles for knitting in the round (or one size smaller than size needed for tension, only needed to complete brim)
2.75mm (US 2) needles for knitting in the round, or size needed to achieve stated tension
3mm (US 2.5) needles for knitting in the round, or one size larger than size needed for tension
3.25mm (D) crochet hook (or similar size, needed for provisional cast-on only)
1 stitch marker
Darning needle
Large dinner plate and beaker (for blocking)
You need to be able to: work a crochet-chain provisional cast-on, work in the round, work common increases and decreases (yarn over, KFB, K2tog, SSK, centred double decrease), work from a chart (lace patterns are charted only)
