Lady Susan Mitts
Lady Susan is a simple pair of mitts worked in the round with a gusset thumb. It has a lacy decorative cast-on and bind-off. The stem of the flower is worked as you go, and the petals stitched on afterwards.
Yarn: You will need approximately 135 yards of a worsted-weight yarn in a solid or semisolid colorway for best results.
Supplies:
- 4 US size 5 needles
- 2 stitch markers
- stitch holder or waste yarn
- tapestry needle
- 2 yards scrap yarn in a contrasting color
Sizing: Wrist circumference is 7” flat, 8” stretched. Circumference may be adjusted by adding or subtracting the number of cast-on stitches. Extra stitches should be distributed evenly on either side of the thumb (thumb should always be half the total # of stitches away from the flower stem.)
Length (cuff to top) is 7.5”. Cuff length may be adjusted by adding or subtracting rows from the stem above or below the leaf. Hand length may be adjusted by adding rows of purls above the bobble before the top cuff, or subtracting rows from the top cuff.
Pattern Difficulty: Advanced beginner to easy intermediate. Uses a different cast-on and bind-off, which are described in detail in the pattern. Knit in the round with gusset thumb. Uses a variety of increases and decreases.
