Gentle Reader,
As the social season of The Ton commences, it is this writer’s deepest desire that you have something both lovely and easy to knit whilst watching the events of the coming season unfold. Several nearly-mindless rows of stockinette will be interspersed with dipped rows for you to savor as this year’s love match comes to light. Of course, regardless of whom the Queen bestows her blessings, the season’s Incomparable will certainly be you, Gentle Knitter, in your delightful, fashionable cowl.
Enjoy knitting a fantastic bandana-style cowl while watching Penelope’s story in the new season of Bridgerton. The cowl is worked top-down, on the bias, beginning with just a few cast-on stitches, so if you hate counting tons of stitches, this will be a breeze!
It’s also constructed to taper at the neck to reduce bulk at the neckline, making it even easier to wear and style.
The pattern is intended for a long-color-change style yarn, but you can substitute a solid color or even use up scraps if you like. The Making Tracks DK yarn is really more of a Worsted weight, so if you substitute, be sure to keep an eye on your gauge.
There are 2 options for finishing the cowl: It may be sewn together at the edges, or you can add buttons and after-thought buttonholes with a crochet hook when the piece is finished. A detailed video for how/where to add the button loops is linked in the pattern.
Gauge:
18 sts & 38 rows/4” (after blocking) in the slip stitch patterns on a size 6 needle (or size to achieve gauge). You can check your sizing against the schematic after you’re a few rows into part 2 of the cowl.
Materials:
2 skeins of Junction Fiber Making Tracks (210 yds/skein) in Seacoast (MC) and 1 skein of Making Tracks in Natural/undyed(CC), or
approximately 305 yds of the MC and 180 yds of the CC in a heavy DK or worsted weight yarn.
A 24” size 7 (4.5 mm) circular needle or size needle required to achieve gauge,
A tapestry needle for weaving loose ends, a stitch marker, five 15 mm buttons (if desired), and a 4mm crochet hook (if making button loops).
Finished size:
One size measures 22” in circumference at the neck opening, 11” along the shorter edges of the cowl, and 23” along the deepest part of the cowl (from the point straight up to the neck opening, unstretched.
