Lakenham Mosaic Sampler
Overlay Mosaic Crochet CAL
Inspired by Cross Stitch samplers, Lakenham was designed as a 6-part CAL, worked using overlay mosaic crochet, and finished off with a simple envelope border to hide the loose ends.
Each part includes a clear, marked chart, full written instructions, and lots of supporting photos.
It does not require any special stitches, nor mid-row colour changes, making it ideal for all levels of expertise, including beginners to mosaic crochet.
As the CAL is now finished, I have removed the files for all of the separate CAL parts, and replaced them with the complete pattern in a single file.
If you are unfamiliar with mosaic crochet, or the envelope border, don’t worry, they are much easier to do than they look, and step by step instructions are given.
You will only be using 1 colour for each row.
The pattern is written for a single size (approximately 90 x 117cm), and colour packs are available for this size.
The pattern also includes additional information to enable you to easily make a different size (just start with a multiple of 48 + 6 chains).
You can also adjust the length of your project by repeating your favourite parts, or skipping others… I have even created a new gauge swatch for this CAL, which you can add to your project if you wish!
The 48-stitch repeat also makes Lakenham Mosaic Sampler easy to combine with many of my other mosaic crochet designs, including Meow!, Woof!, March Hare, Woodland Trail, Flora’s Fauna, Letitia’s Garden, Spring Into Easter and Beside the Seaside.
For those of you wanting to make a larger blanket, I made up a 115cm x 145cm scrap-buster, and Lynn Leonard made an even larger version (145cm x 190cm), incorporating Meow!.
There are no colour packs for these, but I have included instructions in a bonus file, along with bonus charts to help you extend the width of the alphabet and numbers, and to add a Home Sweet Home banner.
Please note to make Lynn’s combo blanket you will need to have purchased Meow! separately.
Supporting videos for the gauge swatch and chart 6 (which includes 3-row overlay mosaic crochet) are provided on my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/RosinaCrochets.
Note: I have used the same basic border design as Flora’s Fauna, and the video for that is already available.
Lefthander-friendly
For any non-symmetrical sections I have either provided a separate lefthanded chart, so it matches the written instructions (this will create a mirror-image of the design), or provided separate written instructions (where letters / numbers are included).
There are also lefthanded versions of the videos.
The complete pattern is also available from my Etsy and Love Crafts stores.
To simplify the abbreviations, and avoid the need for separate UK and US versions, the pattern is written in my ’Universal’ terms (I developed these terms for the Jacquard Temperature Blanket and have also used them in all my subsequent overlay mosaic crochet CALs and patterns).
If you want to find out more about my Universal terms, please see this short video https://youtu.be/IsubXOfEuVw
Dutch translations are also be provided, courtesy of my dear friend, Caroline Tigchelaar.
