This super sweet llama is all set for her grueling hike through the Andes! After a brief nap maybe. Yeah, probably actually a long nap, maybe just a quick overnight. You know what who really wants to hike that much when it’s so much more comfortable to stay in bed?

Her body is a wide rectangle folded in half and then the head is attached. I’m giving my sample to an infant so I folded it and seemed the belly permanently. But you can actually turn her into a pillow/stuffed animal, the perfect thing for nap time, just by adding i-cord loops and buttons between the legs rather than seeming.

Choosing yarn:
I used Big Bad Wool Weepaca in approximately the following quantities:

Color A: Raw White 80 yards
Color B: Coral 190 yards
Color C: Hay (gold) 20 yards
Color D: Fair Hope (aqua) 20 yards

I was down to the last 2 yards or so on Color B so I would definitely recommend an extra skein, especially if you’re a loose knitter.

Fiber Choice.
I know, I know, I used an alpaca blend for a toy for a child, not everybody is going to be into that (although you should because it’s great) So if you’re going to substitute consider the following:

This particular yarn is a light worsted, it is loosely spun and super squishy, that’s how I managed to knit it on US3s without it being stiff as a board. If you switch to a yarn with a high twist or a heavier worsted you’re going to be tearing your hair out trying to knit at such a tight gauge. I would recommend swatching. Size up your needles until you make a fabric that is flexible but still dense so the stuffing doesn’t show through. You’ll need more yardage on larger needles, so allow for at least 25% more yardage of each color.
