Lara's Heirloom Garter
This is a gorgeous heirloom set including both a keep garter and a toss garter. The simple, delicate hint of lace at the top and bottom is completed in a size 30 thread, creating the backdrop for the floral body of the garter. The heavier size 10 thread combined with the delicate size 30 thread creates a striking contrast that will rival off-the-shelf garters.
Ribbons can be used in any color- perhaps for that “something blue,” or pure white, or a color to match the bridesmaids. Perhaps change the body garter color to a pale pink or an alluring deep crimson, overlaying the delicate white lace.
The final component of this garter is what sets it apart from store bought ones, and the reminder that this is a handmade heirloom - the keepsake charm. For something old, attach grandmother’s ring, or for something new, attach a cross that will be used for their first child’s baptism. Maybe it will be the friendship ring he gave to her in high school, or her sister’s borrowed locket.
Begin the tradition of passing down this garter, from mother to child. Each one can tell her own story, which begins with you…
