Large-scale Herringbone Pullover
by Teva Durham
When I started loop-d-loop, I looked for ways to place the familiar in an unfamiliar context. I hit upon the theme of making a traditional textile pattern (such as argyle or houndstooth) extremely out of scale and, often, asymmetrical. Not only do these blown-p patterns provide interesting interconnecting shapes, but the giant areas make colorwork less fussy. I tried herringbone in several ways, imitating woven threads, brick-laying schemes, and the typical staggering of dark and light. I like to think of the V-like shapes as referencing the distinctive, rippled V pattern of stockinette stitch. -- description from Loop-d-Loop, pgs. 140 (pattern on pg. 166)
