This beautiful pattern, designed using a modified version of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Pi Shawl algorithm, can be knit up as a warm winter lace blanket, or as a lovely light lace shawl. Late August uses easy to remember lace patterns to make this project fun and easy!
This pattern includes instructions to make many different versions of this pattern. The original in lace weight and bulky weight, modifications for both weights to make it larger, and to either have the center as a lacy open flowing center or as a beautiful garter with eyelet center.
Knitting information:
Skill level: intermediate
Yarn Amounts:
for the blanket:
2 balls of Cascade Eco+ in the “Straw” colourway

For the red-y/pink shawl:
2 balls of Indigo Moon in the “Wildberry” colourway

A note: yarn estimates don’t apply to the extended modification
Gauge:
Blanket:

Shawl:
23 stitches by 20 rounds = 4” by 4” in blocked blackberry stitch, worked in the round.
A note on the gauge:
Both the blanket and shawl versions of this pattern benefit from a very loose gauge. Designed to only use minimal yarn for the sizes provided, tight knitters will need to step up their needle size!
I want to thank all my lovely test knitters, and my lovely models, and all the folks who supported me in getting this giant of a project knit up, photographed and published. You’re all awesome!
Hope you enjoy this beautiful thing!
