When a friend published his Rodofite Shawl I fell in love with the idea of designing shawls inspired by seaweeds. First the name, Lattuga di mare, came out from a small seaweed I found often on the Atlantic beaches. This shawl is inspired by the curious and irregular shape of sea lettuce, moreover I tried to put in my work the colors of Atlantic Ocean and the waves foam knitting together two contrasting yarns. Stripes made by short rows recall the streams of the sea.
Pattern
Based on the dragon tail construction, it is transformed with the insertion of ruffles on the edge and short rows to modified width and shape.

Quando un amico ha pubblicato il suo Rodofite Shawl mi sono invaghita della sua idea di fare scialli ispirati ad alghe. Ne è uscito Lattuga di mare dal nome di un’alga dalla crescita disordinata con margini irregolari, ondulati, sempre in balia delle onde sulle spiagge Atlantiche in cui l’ho incontrata. Oltre alla forma dell’alga in questo scialle ho cercato i colori dell’Atlantico, la schiume delle onde e le sue correnti rappresentate dalle righe a ferri accorciati.
Pattern
Il modello è sostanzialmente basato sulla costruzione della coda di drago qui modificata per ottenere le creste ondulate all’estremità e aperta nell’ampiezza con l’utilizzo di ferri accorciati. Per il momento è disponibile solo in Inglese, la versione italiana è in fase di aggiornamento.
