This pattern was inspired by the hat worn by the Latvian athletes during the opening ceremonies of the 2018 games.

ALSO NOTE - The hat is red and white as per the Latvian flag. The red in the Latvian flag is really a dark red known as Carmine Red. See this Wikipedia post about the flag - there is a section on Flag Colors that provides details for selecting the correct color of red.
