Lavorada
This shawl is a tribute to Lavorada, an event that takes place in June in Póvoa do Varzim [[a small fishing town in the north of the country, famous for its Camisola Poveira, a sweater traditionally used by fishermen]. Lavorada comes from the term “lavor”, which means “manual craft”. Dozens of people together in a public garden to share their love for manual labor.
Lavorada was thought to be a learning shawl, with progressive difficulty, and is being knitted by 20 people in a workshop that combines knitting and wine. Or were it not Portugal a country of great vineyards and great artisans.
The tension is not important for this project, so you can use your favourite weight/yarn for the project. You can easily adjust the size of your shawl, using fewer repetitions of each section.
For the grey shawl, we used 1 skein of color 1 and 2 and 2 skeins of colour 3. For the blue shawl, we used 2 skeins of each colour.
