The beanie is knitted in the round, and the stems incorporated as a contrasting colored cable. The leaves are added after the beanie has been completed. There are lots of yarn ends to sew in: each leaf has two, but the end result is worth the effort.
An intermediate level knitter should be fine with this pattern.

Instructions are given for head sizes 18” (46 cm), 21” (53 cm), and 23” (58 cm). These correspond to child, small adult and medium-large adult sizes.

The beanie is knitted with fingering weight yarn. You may use any fingering weight yarn, but the yarns used in the hats pictured are Scheepjes Our Tribe and Hobii Dream Colour.
The stems and leaves are knitted with sock or fingering weight yarn. A yarn with at least 70% wool will block into shape more easily.

MC: Main Color – used for the beanie 120 (150, 170) yds, (110, 137, 155 m) required
CC: Contrasting Color – used for the stem and leaves. The stems take about 8 yds (7.5 m) and the leaves, about 22 yds (20 m).

Gauge:
24 sts and 44 rows / 4” (10 cm) in blocked garter stitch. Note – row gauge is not so important.
