This beautiful shawl uses the magic of dropped stitches to create an easy-to-knit lacy design. Knitters usually want to avoid dropping stitches and it takes a “Leap of Faith” to drop them on purpose! The shawl is a perfect summer accessory knit in silk or cotton; or use a merino-silk blend for a season-spanning “Leap of Faith” shawl.

Instructions are given for 2 gauges: Gauge #1: 5½ sts = 1” and Gauge #2: 5 sts = 1”. Gauge #1 will create a firmer knit, more defined fabric; Gauge #2 will create a lacier fabric with more drape.

The shawl is knit in two pieces and then joined at the center back using a 3-needle bind off. A 6-Stitch-Drop-Stitch Cable is worked on a background of Stockinette Stitch with a “rolled” Stockinette Stitch edging. Just before working the Center Back Panel, stitches are dropped, creating the lacy “ladders” on each side of the cables.

New addition to the pattern! Now included, supplemental instructions for a scarf variation using 1 skein of Plymouth Yarn’s Mushishi.
