This sweater was a specific request from my daughter, aged 9 years and 6 months old. She chose the colour, we decided together how long it should be, but I have imposed short sleeves (you know why…).

She chose to have hearts somewhere, I chose to make them filled and empty and to put them somewhere where you could be easily substitute them with something else: I have designed 3 options to choose from.

You have 4 generous sizes that should fit children up to the age of about 12.
It is a practical sweater for everyday school days, but with a special attention to details and wearability!

L’écolière, feminine, singular, means schoolgirl in French.

Characteristics
This sweater is knitted top-down, in one piece.
Sleeve have a classical raglan construction.
The length is adjustable (you will use more yarn than the stated yardage).

Yarn
Total yardage, MC+CC
To be held together:
Fingering weight yarn: approx 95 (110, 125, 150) g, 380 (440, 500, 600) m / 416 (481, 547, 656) yds
Mohair silk yarn: approx 47.5 (55, 62.5, 75) g, 380 (440, 500, 600) m / 416 (481, 547, 656) yds

These numbers are estimates based on sample yarn usage and given gauge.

Sample was knit in:
MC: 100 g, 400 m / 437 yds, of Black Forest Yarn Merino Ground Control, 100% superwash merino, colourway Julie’s Hair, AND 50 g 400 m / 437 yds of Le Mohair des fermes de France, 60% mohair, 40% silk, colourway Celadon.
CC: 25 g, 100 m / 109 yds, of Black Forest Yarn Merino Ground Control, 100% superwash merino, colourway Butterfly on Lilacs, AND 12,5 g 100 m / 209 yds of Le Mohair des fermes de France, 60% mohair, 40% silk, colourway Rose.
For both colours I have chosen to use similar shades of merino and mohair.

Gauge
21.5 sts and 28 rows over 10cm / 4” in stockinette stitch, worked in the round, wet blocked.
Stitch gauge is ESSENTIAL, as it will determine the width of your sweater, so pay special attention to that half stitch. Row gauge is a suggestion, as all lengths will be given in centimetres / inches.

Skills needed
Casting on, knitting in the round, basic increases and decreases, stranded colour work (optional), binding off

Sizes
To fit chest circumferences:
6 y: 67 cm /26.4”
8 y: 70 cm / 27.5”
10 y: 74 cm / 29.1”
12 y: 77 cm / 30.3”

Model is 9 and half years old, her chest is 69 cm / 27.1”, and she is wearing a 10 y sweater.
