This vest is a veritable embrace. And truly, nothing could be simpler than its construction: a tube with armhole openings at just the right place plus shaping to hug the shoulders. And because it is so simple, it lends itself to multiple interpretations. Hence the three versions offered: stockinette, textured tumbling blocks, a 2-colour stitch pattern. You may choose your level of challenge! (And check out the notes on the final page for alternate stitch patterns to consider.)

Because I like to wear these vests over long, full shirts or dresses, I made them to waist length. I am very happy with this length, and I encourage you to give it a try. BUT, if you dress differently, you can surely make these pieces longer—and the pattern tells you where to do so. Just be sure that you have as much as 20% more yarn.

I do not list the yarns used because I did 3 versions--one with a heavy worsted, one with a DK combined with a lace weight, and the 2-colour one with light worsteds. Here are the yarn amounts you might need:

Stockinette or knit-and-purl versions
Heavy worsted—16 sts / 4” (10cm)—(or light worsted + lace weight) in the following amounts:
approx 385 (425, 470, 510, 550) yd, (350 385, 425, 460, 495m)

2-colour version
Light–medium worsted—20 sts / 4” (10cm)—in the following amounts:
approx
205 (225, 250, 270, 295) yd (185 205, 225, 245, 265m) in colour 1
235 (279, 300, 325, 350) yd (210 245, 279, 295, 315)m) in colour 2

SIZES S (M, L, 1X, 2X)
BUST 39¼ (43, 46¾, 50½, 54¼)” (99 109, 118, 128, 137cm)
