Based on reflections, Lemel is inspired by peering into a cracked mirror and seeing a form of structured distortion. Bold, dark lines are severe and strong, while the rippling lightness of the other tones in-between make the fabric complex and fluid. John Arbon Textiles Alpaca Supreme yarn creates a beautiful drape in a range of metallic natural colours.
Lemel is a hip length jumper with set in sleeves and a turtleneck. The fabric of the jumper is knit up using four methodically placed metallic colours, the ripples in the fabric are created by changing needle size and doubling the number of stitches. This creates a textured, gathered effect, even though the entire jumper is essentially knit in stocking stitch.
Little details include two rows of bobbles on the body hem, and around the cuffs of the jumper.

Gauge: 29.5 sts & 41 rows = 10 cm / 4” over stocking stitch on 3 mm needles after blocking.
Note on gauge: This gauge should be used for swatching purposes but note that the Gathering Stripe Pattern gauge will be significantly more stretchy due to the nature of the stitch pattern.

Needles: 3 mm / US 2½ knitting needles
3.5 mm / US 4 knitting needles
3 mm / US 2½ circular needle, 40 cm (16”) length
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Notions: 2 stitch markers, stitch holders Notes: The jumper is knit in pieces before seaming and picking up stitches for the neckband which is worked in the round. The hip pleats are set after the final blocking process.
Maintain 1 selvedge stitch at each edge of garment piece by slipping the first st of every row. The first and the last sts (not counting selvedge sts) are knit on the RS and purled on the WS to make a construction line at each seam. Stay mindful of keeping the correct stitch count when following shaping as instructed.
