This piece is an evolution of L’Enveloppe (also available here on Ravelry). That piece was sized generously enough to wear over a light coat, but it doesn’t add a huge amount of warmth, doesn’t have a tall collar, and doesn’t fit well under a coat. So when the weather (at least where I live) got winter-cold, I needed something that a) could provide true warmth, b) had a tall collar, and c) was appropriate for a heavier coat.

The first version (shown in red) is asymmetrical—like the original L’Enveloppe—with one arm opening to hold it in place. It goes beautifully over a light winter coat. But it rides up when worn under a coat. So I needed to work a second version (shown in gray) that is not asymmetrical, fits closer to the body under the arms, and has two arm openings so would sit in place under a winter coat on cold days. (It is shown over a heavy fleece, which also works!) But I generally wear it under a parka.

Knit with a large yarn (and doubled worsted weight works), over big needles, both are quick knits and perfect for real winters!
