Let There Be Stripes Beanie
Lion Brand’s Tweed Stripes yarn has wonderfully long color changes which work great with crochet. Too often, striping yarns are made specifically for knitting with color changes that are too short for crochet.
I took a chance on this yarn and am glad I did. The long color changes make it easy to get a striped look without actually having to change yarns and weave in all those ends. It is a bit scratchy but washing it with your favorite yarn wash or fabric softener should soften it up nicely.
Oh, there are notes on measurements at end of the pattern just in case you want to use a different weight yarn.
Yardage:
Brown sample (Adult, up to top of ears) uses Woodlands colorway, 115 yds
Green sample (Adult, over ears) uses Lakeside colorway, 124 yds
Green sample (0-3 mths) uses Lakeside and Apple Mint colorways, 35 yds
1 skein will make one Teen/Adult Female hat and one Preemie hat
2 skeins will make two Teen/Adult Female hats and one 0-3 mths hat
Skill Level: Easy
Notes:
Rounds - This beanie is not worked in continuous rounds but if you prefer to do so, skip joining with a sl st and making a ch 1 at the beginning of ea round. I preferred not to do this because I didn’t like the way the transition happened between the sc and dc rounds and working in rounds sometimes causes the piece to “twist.”
Standing Double Crochet - If you prefer using the standard beg dc instead of the sdc, smake a ch 3 at the beg of ea dc round instead of the ch 1, sdc.
More colors - If you’d like to add more color to this beanie, make the dc rounds in a different colorway.
Stitches Used:

Standing Double Crochet (sdc)
Special Stitches Used:
Reverse Single Crochet (rsc) aka Crab Stitch
Standing Double Crochet (sdc) - without joining a new color
