Let’s Stripe

I have always loved stripes: oblique, lengthwise, diagonal; in textiles and fabric; on plates; in nature (I love bumblebees) - I see stripes everywhere! So, what could be more fitting than for this stripe-obsessive to create a stripey beanie with 12 marvellous shades of Milarrochy Tweed? In this hat, my stripes are completely irregular without repetition, knitted with care and love in every round. Follow my stripey sequence or choose your own shades to create your own unique beanie - and enjoy the process!

Kate Davies Designs Milarrochy Tweed (70% wool; 30% mohair; 100m / 109yds per 25g ball). 1 ball of each of the following shades:

40cm / 16in below gauge-size circular needle.

Gauge
28 sts and 34 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stockinette stripes in the round on gauge-size needle. Gauge was achieved on 3.25mm / US 3 needle.

Sizing
Depending on your preference, this hat can be stretched and blocked to create a relatively slouchy shape.
One size to fit head circumference: 52-56 / 20½-22in
Hat circumference (unstretched): 52cm / 20½in
Height from brim to crown: 29cm / 11½in
