This lovely scarf is light weight but incredible warm. The stitch feels like a cross between a herringbone and and scallop. Slip stitches on the wrong side leave long vertical ridges up the spine of the scarf which enhance the herringbone effect, while the rising and falling of stitches between these ridges offers a scalloped look and subtle movement to the design.

The pattern includes a lesson on gauge which is all about finding a knitted fabric that you like. So while the instructions say this scarf is knitting with US#6 needles and gets 25 stitches to 4 inches in pattern, that is only what I used and was happy with. You’ll see as you read my “notes on gauge” that you should experiment with other needles until you have a knitted fabric that looks woven and makes you happy.

I used manos silk blend for this sample and it’s a lovely yarn and the variegated colorways show off this pattern very well, but for a more understated look you can use their tonal colors or try using any solid DK weight yarn. But I like the addition of silk in the silk blend becuase it adds the amazing drape of this scarf.
