Lilacs For Mama was designed for publication in the May & June 2026 issue of Doll Castle Magazine, to which I am a regular pattern contributor. It was inspired by -- well, Mother’s Day and lilacs. When I was growing up, my mom had two beautiful huge lilac bushes growing at the back corner of our house, and I loved to bury my face in the purple blossoms. (I still do, as a matter of fact -- being careful, of course, not to sniff a bee. Which I did. Once).

With its pretty light purple color and frothy ruffles, doesn’t this little dress remind you of lilacs, springtime, and Mama’s flowers? Crocheted in light purple size 10 cotton thread and trimmed in white, the dress is sized to fit popular 14.5 inch vinyl body little girl dolls such as Wellie Wishers™, American Girl Sisters™, Modern Era™ American Girls, Glitter Girls®, Hearts for Hearts Girls™, Ruby Red Fashion Friends, etc. (Chest approx. 7 inches, waist approx. 6 inches, hips approx. 8-7/8 inches). My model is a Ruby Red Fashion Friend doll.

You will need one 350-yard ball of the main color and about 30 yards of the trim colors to complete this dress, along with small buttons, ribbon for the sash, and whatever trims you choose.
