Welcome, dear knitters to Spring!
Lily is a sock inspired by the lush, green of springtime as the Earth awakens: vines, buds and the leaves and flowers of lily of the valley.

The sock is knit top down with cables, lace, twisted stitches, and of course beads. The straight, bold lines are reminiscent of the veins of the lily of the valley’s leaves, while the beads represent the delicate blossoms. There is, however, a non-beaded version to the bead-adverse.

The recipe to get you started is a spiced custard, preferably topped with in-season fruit.

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE ON THE CHARTS:
Please note that the “typical” symbols for knit and purl are in fact reversed for these charts. I.e., knit stitches are dots and purls are blank. The reasoning behind this is that it keeps the charts cleaner and less busy than having a symbol in every square. This method is one that I have adopted from the Japanese designer Hitomi Shida’s books. Some of the stitch patterns I have used here are adapted/modified from her stitch bibles.
