When I read that the Summer 2023 issue of Cast On’s Learn Something New series would feature a discussion of an Estonian lace stitch called a nupp, I was excited about creating a design using the stitch. Several years ago, I knit a shawl pattern from Knitted Lace of Estonia by Nancy Bush and fell in love with the stitch, which looks like a mini-bobble or bump. It is the perfect stitch to mimic the bell-shaped flower of the Lily of the Valley plant.
