Lina is the perfect first sweater or quick knit for everyone.If you are new to sweater knitting, I hope you will become a sweater knitter with me. I designed this yoke with knitters new to colorwork in mind (or even knitters new to knitting in mind). If you have my book, The Nordic Knitting Primer, Lina would be in Chapter 2 with the introduction to colorwork. If you are just learning to knit, knitting a sweater like Lina is my favorite way to teach someone to become a knitter. The yarn is fat, so it works up quickly, and you will have lots of practice knitting while knitting the body before you get to the colorwork. And when you get to the colorwork, you will be completely ready for the challenge. The first thing I ever knit (back in the day) was a sweater like Lina, and I’ve been knitting ever since.
If you are an experienced knitter, you know the joy of a knitting a sweater like Lina that you can cast on one day and then have it finished just in time for sweater season ( even if you are casting on in October).
I particularly love the oversized fit on this Nordic Sweater. I like to wear it at a generous 6.5” positive ease. This sweater can be knit with the suggested Harrisville WaterShed for the body and Biches & Bûches Le Gros Lambswool for the colorwork, or completely knit it with either gorgeous yarn. It’s hard to choose. I know. It would also make a lovely two-color sweater like the original Lina Cardigan. If you are new to knitting a traditional bottom-up sweater, you will love how quickly it works up and how portable the body and the sleeves are.

Gauge and swatch
15 stitches and 22 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm with larger needles in stockinette after gently steam-blocking. Please swatch in the round to determine gauge.
