Welcome to the PNW Slow Yarn Crawl 2021! Thank you for stitching up SethanyKnits crocheted pattern. This year’s SYC theme is “Vintage Reimagined.” With that theme in mind, I set out to create something that would fit with current trends but have aspects that touched the past to create that vintage feel. I feel like this cowl accomplishes that in a few ways. The bandana shape is both popular currently and timeless. The colorway I chose reminds me of the days avocado green was the in color (although the cowl will look great in any color you pick). Lastly, the fringe. I don’t know why but fringe says vintage to me! I hope you have a wonderful time hooking up this cowl!

Difficulty Level: Advanced Beginner

Size: Size will be determined by the number of foundation crochet chains; please see the Beginning of Pattern and Gauge section for a better explanation

Yarn: 1 skein of Round Mountain Fibers Alder Fingering held double. My avocado green sample was crocheted using the Red Eyed Vireo colorway from their Ornithology club collection. The Alder Fingering is a very plump sock yarn with approximately 380 yards per skein of 80/20 sw merino/nylon. Holding this double gives you a super squishy fabric with a slightly fuller gauge than a DK weight. If you choose not to use this yarn I would either: 1) use another heavy fingering to sport weight held double or, 2) if you do not want to hold a yarn double I would chose a worsted weight in lieu of a DK.

Hook:: E*** or size to get gauge and a hook one or two sizes bigger to do the foundation chain

Gauge:I have a very loose gauge and generally go down 2-3 hook sizes depending on the pattern. My gauge in a size E hook is 16 scs/4” working in plain scs. In Linen Stitch my gauge is similar but it would be measured 8 scs and 8 ch1 sps/4” section. For height I get about 14 rows per 4.” Please crochet a gauge swatch before starting this pattern so you find a hook that gives you the gauge you need. You can also modify the pattern to increase the circumference if needed by adding or subtracting stitches in sets of two.

Other Supplies: 1 removable stitch marker, 1 bent tip tapestry needle for weaving in your ends, 1 set of scissors, 1 tape measure or ruler (for measuring the body of the cowl and also fringe), wool wash
