This hat is knit brim first, with short rows, and then stitches are picked up for the crown. Linen stitch provides a wonderful texture. After knitting, the hat is starched with fabric glue.

Although the directions are written for one size (adult medium), a different size can be achieved either by changing the needle size up or down or by knitting extra or fewer short row wedges on the brim.
