Lithology Shawl
Inspired by the intricate patterns found in the layers of rock beneath the earth’s surface, creating the Lithology Shawl will take you on a crochet journey like no other.
As you work through the pattern, you’ll discover the joy of bringing the earth’s hidden treasures to life with your hook. Each stitch will transport you deeper into the mesmerizing world of geological wonders.
The Lithology Shawl is a giant, cosy, triangular shawl that will envelop you in warmth, pattern, colour and style. Crafted with the softest merino yarn, it is as luxurious as it is beautiful.
The shawl uses tapestry crochet with extended single crochet (extended double crochet in UK terms) stitches to create an intricate colourwork pattern with a sumptuous drape.
Whether you’re an experienced crocheter or a beginner looking for a challenge, this pattern is designed to be enjoyed by all skill levels. With detailed instructions and helpful tips, the pattern contains everything you need to create a stunning masterpiece reflecting the beauty of nature.
The pattern also includes links to these video tutorials about some of the techniques used:

The shawl is triangular with sides measuring 218 cm, 173 cm and 133 cm.
It’s made in rows which gradually get shorter as you work through the pattern, so you will seem to get faster and faster as you go (a very satisfying way to crochet!).
To make the shawl, I used the following yarn:
Hobbii Friends Extra Fine Merino (4 ply; 165m / 50g ball; 100% wool)
- MC: 5 balls of Deep Ocean (89)
- A: 2 balls of Light Gray (117)
- B: 2 balls of Dusty Rose (52)
- C: 2 balls of Cappuccino (10)
- D: 2 balls of Dune (07)
