Little Alf is knitted in stocking stitch on straight needles, the front and back of his body, wings, tail and beak are all worked flat and sewn together following simple written instructions. His eyes are duplicate stitches and his chest and body are decorated with French Knots. This particular Little Alf measures about 12cm/5inches high and 11.5cm/4.75inches wide excluding tail.
He is knitted in Riihivilla’s Aarni DK/Sport Weight (100% wool; 120m (131yd)/100g) pure Finn sheep yarn, and requires only 25g of main colour, 15g of contrasting colour and a tiny amount of a third colour to complete. However, any weight of yarn can be used with these instructions – just make sure you follow the suggested tension on the ball band.
